Dr. Benjamin Schenkmyer Bohrer was the son of Peter Bohrer (1746-1798), whose place of burial is unknown as of August 24, 2014.

Dr. Bohrer married Eliza Virginia Loughborough on October 3, 1820 in Washington, District of Columbia.
He was Professor of Materia Medica at the Ohio Medical College. He was also instrumental in the establishment of a hospital for the insane in the District of Columbia.
Dr. Benjamin and Eliza Bohrer were the parents of six children, four of whom are not listed below: United States Navy Captain Julius Shepard Bohrer Sr. (1823-1892); Alexander Loughborough Bohrer (born 1825); Maria Fitzhugh Bohrer (1830-1868), who became Sister Mary Aimee of the Convent of the Visitation in Georgetown, District of Columbia in February 1854 and Cloriviere Bohrer (died 1864), who was most likely named after The Reverend Picot de Cloriviere, the Spiritual Director of the Convent of the Visitation. Cloriviere Bohrer entered the United States Military Academy as a cadet in 1846 from the District of Columbia.
On June 9, 1834 Dr. Bohrer married Mrs. Maria Tayloe in Georgetown, District of Columbia.

Died August 19, 1862, of paralysis. Educated at private academy. Studied medicine with Dr. Charles Worthington, supra. Practiced awhile in Georgetown, D.C. Removed to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1822; appointed Prof. Materia Medica, Ohio Medical College. Served several sessions, then returned to Georgetown. Member Medical Association, D.C.; delegate, 1851, to American Medical Association. Visitor to Government Hospital Insane, D.C. Married twice — first, Eliza, daughter of Nathan and Jane Luffborough; afterwards, Mrs. Maria (Taylor) Forrest. Was the originator of the project to establish an insane asylum in this District.

In Georgetown, D.C., on Tuesday, the 19th instant, Dr. Benjamin S. Bohrer, in the seventy-fifth year of his age. The friends of the family are invited to attend his funeral, from his late residence, No. 104 Gay Street, Georgetown, tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon, at 5 o'clock.
Age 75 years.
