| | Ali ibn Abi Talib | |
| [Add A Photo] | | | Illustrations of Ali and his sons Hasan and Husayn, sometimes displayed together and sometimes separately, adorn Shia mosques. Ali is often depicted with a lion and a double-bladed sword. The sword, Al Zulfiqar (Spinecleaver), was given to Ali by the Archangel Gabriel when Ali called to Allah for aid during the Battle of Uhud. Husayn used the sword in the Battle of Karbala. Ali was called "The Lion of Allah" for his willingness to fight to defend the faith. | Added by: Bill McKern 5/21/2009 | | |
