To the marriage of Bruce and Elsie there were three daughters and one son born. Each child was born in a different town in Florida. This was due to the fact that Bruce worked in the sawmills. When the sawmills moved, the family moved. In January 1945, they were living in Inverness, Florida and Elsie gave birth to a baby girl. A few hours after the birth Elsie quickly passed away. It was believed that she had a blood clot.
A short time later the family moved back to Georgia. It was hard for a widower with four small children but he managed to keep his family together. He met Lena Chaney Ervin,a widow who had three children. They married and had one child. Bruce became a member of the Church of Christ and years later became a gospel preacher. They raised their family of eight children, who at the time of this writing in 2011, are all still surviving.
Lena passed away in 1982 after a bout of several years of Alzheimer's disease. In 1995 Bruce and his children had their Mother Elsie moved from her burial place in Inverness to the same plot that step Mother Lena was buried at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Valdosta, Ga. Bruce was buried between his two wives Elsie and Lena at his death in 2009.
