SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN

William Oren Anders was the son of Fremont and Barbara E. (Baylor) Anders. He was born August 21, 1874 in Iowa. He was 10 years old in the 1885 Iowa census for the town of Greeley in Audubon County. His family consisted of his parents, Fremont and Lizzie and brother George, 8 and sisters Emma, 5 and Ina, 2. By 1905, only daughter Ina was living with her parents, listed as Fremont and Elizabeth Anders.

No veterans file can be found for Mr. Anders at the Washington State Digital Archives; however, his tombstone indicates that he served in Company D of the 4th Missouri Infantry during the Spanish American War.

Mr. Anders was rooming in Seattle, Washington in 1920. He was a resident of Providence Hospital in Seattle at the time of the 1930 census.

He died at the age of 71 years at Retsil on 30 January 1946 and was buried on 1 February at the Veterans Home Cemetery.
