He was the son of William H. Emory and Matilda Bache Emory.
On December 27, 1864 as Campbell D. Emory, he married Clara Tilton at Anne Arundel, Maryland.
They were the parents of five children.

June 25, 1861 1st Lieut. 1861 to 1864 at San Francisco, Califonia. July 21, 1862 to December 29, 1863 Regimental Adjutant. December 29, 1863 Captain 1864 to 1869 Aide de Camp to Major General G.G. Meade. April 2, 1865 Brevet Major United States Army for Petersburg, Virginia. April 9, 1865 Brevet Lieut. Colonel United States Army for war service. 1869 frontier duty in Texas. 1871 to 1872 Aide de Camp to Major General G.G. Meade. 1873 to 1878 at San Francisco. March 11, 1878 died of a heart condition.
