Catherine J. Gerding, age 90, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 2015 Cherry Lane Estates and 3507 N. 18th Street, Quincy, died on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 6:40 a.m. in the Home. She was born on November 8, 1918 in Quincy, Illinois, a daughter of Edward H. and Frances A. (Vogelpohl) Gerding. Catherine was a long-time member of the former St. John the Baptist Church and is a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She attended St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic School, Notre Dame of Quincy, and Gem City Business College. Prior to her retirement in 1989, Catherine was employed as a secretary for Lagomarcino-Grupe Co. and Scholz, Staff, & Palmer Law Firm. Catherine was a member of St. John's Leisure Club, the Ladies of Charity, Women's City Club, and Westview Golf Course, and she participated in the Adoration Chapel She enjoyed golf, cards, and travel. She also did volunteer work. Catherine is survived by numerous relatives including cousins, George Schutte, Ruth Peters, Paul Gerding and also a special friend, Pat Orr. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Alvera Ann Gerding. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a parish prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Ladies of Charity or to St. Francis Catholic Church.
