This man was our neighbor. He and his wife Mildred had three young children - Barbara, Patricia and Daniel. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was the manager of a Kwikie Mart convenience store. Working late on a Sunday night closing out the days receipts, he was confronted by two thugs who kidnapped him, took him to a rural cornfield, shot him execution style and left to die. This had to be one of the most senseless, callous, unnecessary crimes ever committed. This guy had a great sense of humor, was good to his family,a good worker and as good a neighbor as you could ever wish for. When my dad was out of town working late hours we would sometimes have a cookout with his family. We always had a good time. My Mom and His wife were good friends. We were playmates with his children. I was ten when this happened and I have never forgotten the morning when I answered the door on the way out to school and his wife was there asking to see my mother. She began telling my mother how Bob hadn`t come home from work the night before. When we got home from school we were told the news of his disappearance. He was found about a month later by a farmer`s hand out picking corn in his fields. The killers were caught later on, tried, convicted, and sentenced to life with no chance for parole. God`s love to you, Mr. Benedict
