Jerry Dewayne Cowman, 62, of Delta, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at his home in Delta.

Jerry was born Aug. 14, 1946, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Helen Lorenz Cowman. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1964. Following graduation he entered the U.S. Air force and served in Vietnam. He was discharged in 1968.

Jerry was united in marriage to Mary Enlow in San Diego, Iowa, and she died June 8, 1999. On March 21, 2003, he married Deborah Little in Des Moines, Iowa.

He was employed in Rose Hill at the feed mill, Arco Sinclair, farmed for Larry Hunt, purchased and ran a dairy farm near Delta. He was also in the feed business, drove trucks and worked at Good Year Tire Company. In October of 2008, Jerry retired from Farm Service in Oskaloosa.His hobbies included collecting John Deere Toys, woodworking, doing yard work and watching NASCAR racing. He was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church, past member of the American Legion and past member of different bowling leagues.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah of Delta; his children, Scott (Jody) Cowman of Rose Hill, Christine (Buck) Clark of Barnes City, Mike (Nicki) Leathers Jr. of Delta, Steve (Sara) Leathers of Wellman and Tina Leathers of Grinnell; 11 grandchildren; his brother, Danny (Deb) Cowman of Parnell; sisters, Sandra (Cecil) Banks of Knoxville and Patsy (Larry) Stewart of Oskaloosa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; a brother, Jef;f and a sister, Joyce.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Delta United Methodist Church, Delta, with Pastor Vince Homan officiating. Interment will follow at Tioga Cemetery near Delta. Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion, V.F.W. and D.A.V.
