Patricia Louise York Focht was born on Sunday; October 16, 1932 in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa. She was the daughter of: Louis Raymond and Miriam Aves York. Pat had two young brothers, Louis,Jr., who died at birth; and Bill, who died in 1954 at the age of 18. Pat grew up on the Iowa farm, always busy doing farm chores, her family says, active in 4-H and involved in many areas of music. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in fine arts from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1955. During college, she was soprano soloist for the Drake Des Moines Symphony. She began her teaching career in Marshalltown, Iowa. After her marriage to Ray Focht in 1957, they moved to the York farm at Melbourne, Iowa where they lived and raised their daughters Laura, Lisa and Monique. Pat was well-know throughout Iowa for her exceptional soprano voice and appeared in many communities as soprano soloist in Handel's "Messiah" and in theater productions of the Marshalltown Community Theater. Ray, Pat and the girls moved to Wyoming in 1973, where she continued her teaching and theater work. The family says that Pat took great personal interests in her students, encouraging them and inspiring them to excellence. Patricia Louise York Focht, age 67, passed away at her home on Saturday; September 9, 2000 after a long illness. Those left to mourn her passing are her: husband: Ray daughters Laura Huggins and her husband Willie of LaBarge; Lisa Friday of Lander; and Monique Mowers and her husband Don of Lander; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services for Pat Focht of Lander, Wyoming was on Wednesday; Sept 13, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. from the Evangelical Free Church of Lander, Wyoming.
