ALICE M. SMITH

STAYTON- Alice was born to J. P. and Beatrice M. Smith on February 1, 1915 in Mill City, Ore. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 24, 2009 at age 94. She was born and raised in Mill City and lived on the "home place" until entering Marian Estates four years ago. She attended school in Mill City, graduation form Mill City High School. She attended Oregon Normal School (now WOU), earning her teachers certificate in 1936. She taught school in Mill City her entire teaching career, retiring in 1978. Alice was very active at Canyon Baptist Church in Lyons, taking part in many activities through the years.

She is survived by her niece, Dolores Miller of Salem; nephews, Craig Smith of Denver, Colo. and Gary Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three siblings, Frank W. Smith, Merritt W. Smith and Rose Ortega; and niece, Peggy McCoy.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5 at Canyon Baptist Church, 446 Cedar Street, Lyons.

The family requests in the lieu of flowers, a contribution be made to the Canyon Baptist Church of the charity of your choice.

Private burial was held Thursday, April 30 at Fox Valley Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services.
