Services: 07/28/2008. Preceded by husbands, Don Buckley and Philip 'Red' Buckley.
-----------
On July 19, 2008, our beloved sister, Jacqueline Marie (Bernhardt) Buckley left us to be with the Lord. She fought long and hard to survive to an old age. Just short of her 57th birthday she was called home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Jacqueline was born in Bismarck in 1951 and raised in Strasburg. She was widowed twice. She was united in marriage to Don Buckley, a wonderful man, with whom she helped raise his children. Don was taken after a rewarding marriage of 11 years. She then married Philip "Red" Buckley and was blessed with nine years of blissful marriage until Red passed away. Jacqueline served 12 years in the U.S. Army as a mental health specialist. She was a veteran of the first Gulf War.

Jacqueline was a loving, nurturing spirit who returned to Bismarck in 2003, to help care for her mother (and best friend), Martha. She often said she didn't know what she wanted to be when she grew up; she tried out many options while going back to college to explore nursing, nutrition and occupational therapy while working as a care giver. She was gracious, giving, observant and insightful. She had a quick, witty sense of humor. Jackie could be as tough as a piece of steel and soft as melted butter.

Jackie enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, crafting, creating jewelry, cooking, playing cards, shopping, quilting, reading and woodworking. She was a wonderful cook and could figure out how to fix almost anything.

She loved life and sought to find the beauty in everything and the good in everyone she met. She endured with dignity her journey through the pain of her illness. She was a warrior.

Jackie was preceded in death by her father, Jack; her sister, Kathryn; and her husbands, Don and Red.

Memorials can be made to the Abused Adult Resource Center, P.O. Box 5003, Bismarck, N.D. 58502, American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73123-1718, or Relay for Life.
