Mrs. Mary Jane Christian, 85, who was honored last April as the "mother of the year" in the Easton area, died at 9:15 a.m. today at her home on Durham Road, Riegelsville. She was the widow of Joseph Christian.
Mrs. Christian was feted by the Merchants Association of the Easton Area Chamber of Commerce at a huge Mother's Day party in the State Theatre, Easton last April 28. She leaves 96 descendants--10 children, 50 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Christian was born in Upper Black Eddy on Oct. 29, 1863, a daughter of the late Samuel and Margaret Lear. She moved to Phillipsburg in 1900, and lived there before moving to Riegelsville in 1923. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Riegelsville.
Her husband died four years ago shortly after the couple observed their 65th wedding anniversary.
