The genealogical literature concerning Wilburn King Little is replete with the inaccurate statement that his parents were Henry Perry Little and his second wife, Susannah (Crump) Tunnell Little (marriage date 19 Sept 1833). Wilburn's parents actually were Henry Perry Little and his first wife, Cynthia (Bass) Little, who were married on 06 Jun 1822 at Jefferson Co., AL. Cynthia (Bass) Little died between 1832, the birth year of her last child, Robert J. Little, and 19 Sept 1833, the marriage date of Henry Little and his second wife, Susannah (Crump) Tunnell.

The children of Henry Perry Little and his first wife, Cynthia (Bass) Little (marriage date 06 Jun 1822), were:
1) Elizabeth Little b. 21 Jan 1829 in Leeds, Jefferson Co., AL, d. 11 Jul 1871 in Colfax, McLean Co., IL, m. Zachariah Crump on 24 Nov 1845 at St. Clair Co., AL. Zachariah was: (b. 1825 at St. Clair Co., AL, d. 11 Jun 1871 at Colfax, McLean Co., Illinois. Interestingly, Zachariah was the brother of Susannah (Crump) Tunnell who married his wife's father, Henry Perry Little).
2) Wilburn King Little b. 07 Jun 1831 in St Clair, AL, d. 11 Oct 1913 in Leeds, Jefferson Co., AL, m. (1) Sarah Ann Godwin in 1857; (2) McDaniel; (3) Eliza Caroline Pool
3) Robert J. Little b. 1832 in St Clair, AL, d. Aft. 1869, m. Eliza Jane White.

The 1840 US Census of Talladega, Alabama enumerated the household of Henry Perry Little, age range 40-49 Y/O (actual age 40 Y/O). There was a female enumerated in the household in the 30-40 Y/O age range who was most probably Henry's second wife, Susannah (Crump) Tunnell Little, actual age 32 Y/O. There five male children and seven female children living in the household, a mixture of children by Henry's two marriages. All of the children were below 20 Y/O. NOTE: Two of the male children were in the age range of 5-10 Y/O which would have included Wilburn King Little whose actual age was 9 Y/O.

The 1850 US Census of Cahaba Valley, Jefferson Co., AL enumerated the household of 50 Y/O Henry Perry Little, a farmer born in S.C., and his 42 Y/O second wife, Susannah (Crump) Tunnell Little, born in GA. The children in the household were: 19 Y/O Wilburn King Little, the only child in the household by Henry Little and his 1st wife, Cynthia; 16 Y/O Henry Little; 15 Y/O Frances Little; 13 Y/O Elizabeth M. Little; 11 Y/O Polly A. Little; 9 Y/O Arrena Little; 8 Y/O Martha Little; 12 Y/O James R. Little; 6 Y/O Andrew I. Little and 4 Y/O Sydonia A. Little.

Wilburn married his first wife, Sarah Ann Godwin (1835-1866), daughter of Alexander Right Godwin, on 11 Jan 1857 at St. Clair Co., Alabama. She died on 08 Jul 1866 at Jefferson Co., AL.

According to the 1907 Alabama Census of the Confederate Soldiers, Wilburn K. Little enlisted into the Confederate Army in May 1862 as a private at Talladega, Talladega Co., AL for the duration, He was assigned to Company "C", 18th Alabama Infantry Regiment. He wasn't wounded and he surrendered and was paroled at Meridian, Mississippi at the end of the war. Also see attached tombstone.

"The 18th Alabama Infantry was organized September 4,1861 at Auburn with men recruited from the counties of Butler, Coffee, Coosa, Covington, Jefferson, Pike, Shelby and Tuscaloosa. A few weeks later, it went to Mobile by way of Huntsville. The 18th fought the first day at Shiloh and was detailed to escort a Union brigade, it had helped capture, to the rear and did not take part in the second day. At Chickamauga the regiment lost 22 out of 36 officers and 300 of the 500 engaged were killed or wounded. On Missionary Ridge the 18th lost about 90 men, most of which were captured. It began the Dalton-Atlanta campaign with 500 effective men and fought all the way to Jonesboro, losing nearly half of it's men during that campaign. It went to Tennessee with General Hood and lost 100 men at Franklin, most of which were captured. In February 1865 the regiment was ordered to Mobile and placed in the field works at Spanish Fort and it participated in the siege of that place and escaped when it was evacuated. The 18th lost 20 killed and 80 wounded at Shiloh and lost 56% of the 527 engaged at Chickamauga. It suffered 209 casualties at Chattanooga and by November 1864 was reduced to 275 effectives." The 1870 US Census of Precinct 3, St. Clair Co., AL enumerated the household of 35 Y/O Wilburn King Little, a farmer born in AL, and his 32 Y/O second wife, Eliza Caroline (Poole) Jones Little (1835-1922). Eliza was the widow of Pvt. Robert M. Jones (CSA), who died on 15 Mar 1864 in a Union Prison Camp at Rock Island, Illinois and was buried in the Rock Island Confederate Cemetery, Rock Island Co., Illinois. The children residing in the 1870 household reflect these marriages. They were: 11 Y/O Artelia Jane Little; 10 Y/O William Rufus Little; 8 Y/O Cynthia R. Little; 11 Y/O Issac M. Jones (b. 5 Oct 1858); 10 Y/O W. Ely Jones; 8 Y/O Mary Elizabeth Jones (b. 27 Apr 1861 and 6 Y/O Martha Jane Jones (b. 14 May 1863).

NOTE: Elizabeth Caroline (Poole) Jones Little, the second wife of Wilburn King Little, stated in her 12 Jan 1921 Confederate (CSA) pension application that her father was Mitchell Poole and she married Wilburn King Little about 50 years previously. Since the 1870 US Census of Precinct 3, St. Clair Co., AL enumerated the household of 35 Y/O Wilburn King Little and his widowed 32 Y/O second wife, Elizabeth Caroline (Poole) Jones Little (1835-1922), it would appear their marriage occurred in the 1869/70 time period.

The 1880 US Census of Branchville, St. Clair Co., AL enumerated the household of 49 Y/O Wilburn King Little, a farmer born in AL, and his 44 Y/O second wife, Eliza Caroline (Poole) Little, born in AL. Living in the household were the children reflecting their marriages: 21 Y/O Artelia Jane Little; 19 Y/O William Rufus Little; 18 Y/O Cynthia R. Little; 6 Y/O F. P. Little; 5 Y/O A. L. Little; 2 Y/O E. F. Little; 21 Y/O J. Jones; 20 Y/O W. Ely Jones and 18 Y/O Mary Elizabeth Jones.

The 1900 US Census of Bold Springs, Shelby Co., AL enumerated the household of 69 Y/O Wilburn K. Little, a farmer, and his 64 Y/O wife, Elizabeth Caroline (Poole) Little.

The 1910 US Census of Bold Springs, Shelby Co., AL enumerated the household of 77 Y/O Wilburn K. Little, retired, and his 74 Y/O wife, Elizabeth Caroline Little.

Wilburn King Little died testate on 11 Oct 1913 and his will is extant.
