james K. Delano Jr., 72, died April 16,2009, after a year long illness. Born and reared in Colbert County, Jim moved to Florence in 1969. He was a member at Eastside Church of Christ in Sheffield, then at Darby Drive and Cross Point after moving to Florence. he served as elder at Darby Drive for several years in the 1970's.
He worked at Ford Motor Co., 1960=82, and later at Shoals Trailers and U.S. Die Cast. He also sold real estate locally from the early 90's until his full retirement in 2004.

Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served on a destroyer in the Atlantic Fleet, 1955-1957.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia (Watson): sons, Ken Delano and wife Crystal, of Florence, Brad Delano and Myra Hayes, of Florence; and daughter, Lori Ann (McGuire) and husband, Greg of Tuscumbia. He had nine grandchildren.
