SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN
Alma Elmer Davenport was born July 24, 1874, in Chariton, Missouri. His parents were Mason and Temperance (Cartwright) Davenport, both of whom were born in Quincy, Illinois.
MILITARY RECORD:
He enlisted July 1, 1898 in Perry Oklahoma; served with Company "L" of 1st Territorial Regiment; and was discharged on February 13, 1899 at Albany, New York.
Alma married Adaline Shattuck on July 11, 1899 in Orting, Washington. On his application to the Veterans' Home, he listed two daughters: Mrs. Robert L. Stone of Puyallup, and Mrs. T. W. Bishop of Pasco; and one son, Glenn Davenport, of Kelso, as his nearest relatives.
Alma died September 16, 1962 at the Veterans Home and was buried in the cemetery there. The Home noted that his family was present at his bedside. Pallbearers were Charles Brown, Thad Gardner, Jacob Iverson, Henry Higgins, A. L. Myers, william Hartog, and Scott Wrigh.

A. E. Davenport - A retired Orting police judge and justice of the peace, Alma Elmer Davenport, 88, a member of Washington Veterans home at Retsil for the past eight years, died yesterday at the home.
Missouri born, Mr. Davenport served in the Spanish-American War. He lived in Bartlesville, Okla., from his discharge until moving first to Washington state in 1904. Between then and 1935 he lived at various times in Lewis county, Kelso (Cowlitz county), Roslyn (Kittitas county) and Algona (King county) and in Rexord, Mont., and Wallace, Idaho. Settling in Orting in 1935, he remained there until retiring to the veterans home here.
He was a member of United Spanish War Veterans in Orting and the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Blanch Willard and Mrs. Edna Bishop, both of Pasco, Mrs. Dorothy Read of Palm Springs, Calif., and Mrs. Faye Stone of Milton (Pierce county); three sons, Charles of Roseburg, Ore., Leon of Seattle and Glenn of Kelso; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon at the veterans home, under the directino of Pendleton-Gilchrist funeral home.
