Born in Thoroughfare (Prince William County), Virginia, Betty lived on one part or another of her grandparents' farm there for most of her life. She married Rev. Peter Gould Berry on 09 Oct 1927, and was widowed less than 12 years later. She and Rev. Berry were childless. She is remembered fondly as a Deaconess at Oakrun Baptist Church in Thoroughfare, and as the deliverer of hot school lunches to the colored schools of western Prince William County until desegregation. She stopped driving when she was 97, and moved to an independent living apartment in Warrenton, Fauquier County, Virginia, where she lived until just before her death at 102.
