Helen Lynette Neilson, 69, San Antonio, Texas. Helen, loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away March 24th, 2009 after a long, courageous battle with multiple illnesses. Survived by her children; Renee Neilson of San Antonio, Bill (Doris) Neilson of Arlington and Denise (Shayne) Currin of McKinney; sister, Pat (Orv) Lund of San Antonio, brother, Jim (Linda) Ford of League City; five granddaughters; Vanessa, Sara, Callie, Camryn and Caydie as well as numerous nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by her loving parents, Orpha and Arno Ford. Helen was born July 29, 1939 in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was raised in Albuquerque and Santa Fe until 1950 when her family moved to El Paso, Texas. She graduated from Burgess High School in 1957 where she was a varsity cheerleader and member of the ROTC. Helen was a ticket agent for American Airlines before beginning a long and successful career in 1977 as General Manager of Ticketmaster, retiring in 2007 after 30 years of service. Helen lived life to the fullest and in the 60's and 70's she enjoyed the hobby of SCCA race car driving. She also had a passion for animals and enjoyed showing many breeds of dogs. Helen moved to San Antonio in 1980 where she resided until her passing and she left behind her four cherished Chihuahuas; Lexie, Teddy, Shelby and Niko. . An avid Spurs fan, Helen will always be remembered as a bright, beautiful and generous woman who loved her friends, her pets and her family with all of her heart. She will be missed immensely by all who were blessed to be a part of her life and is now joined in Heaven with her parents and her beloved best friend, Annie. The family is requesting that donations be made to the San Antonio Chihuahua Rescue, 210-379-4031, 9558 Bareback Trail, San Antonio, TX 78250 in lieu of flowers. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 27th, Concordia Lutheran Church, 16801 Heubner Road, San Antonio, Texas at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow at Helen's home.
