CWO2 US MARINE CORPS
The Press-Enterprise - 9 March 2009
January 5, 1922 ~ March 1, 2009 A Service Celebration of Life for Lillian "Lil" Wolford, 87, a 20 year resident of San Jacinto, will be held at Miller-Jones Mortuary Hemet on Monday, March 16, 2009 with a viewing from 9 to 10am and service at 10am, with burial at Riverside National Cemetery. Born and raised in Lennox (Inglewood), California, she died peacefully after nearly three years of failing health. Lillian was married in 1944 to her childhood sweetheart, Leonard S. Wolford, USMC Ret., who predeceased her. They traveled most of the United States, Canada, Norway and Sweden, and several trips to Hawaii. Lil began work at North American Aviation after high school, and later for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C. Returning to California when her husband retired, she worked for Management Services in Santa Ana, and once again, North American-Rockwell. A busy Marine wife with two daughters, activities in Girl Scouts, PTAs and churches wherever she lived, The Norwegian Lodge, Entre Nous (since high school), Square Dancing, Bowling Leagues, two Emblem Clubs (#530 of Santa Ana and #162 of Hemet), gave her a very full and active life. She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Linda (Donald) Shifflet of Anaheim and Mrs. Leta Hartley of San Jacinto, four grandsons, eleven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, her brother-in-law, Roy L. Wolford and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family suggests memorial contributions to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital or their own favorite charity in Lillian's name. Her own contributions were many and far reaching.
Daughter of Alex Rudolph and Anne Marie (Abelseth) Hoflund.
