from Linda Dillon of CA:

William and his family came to the US on the ship ILLINOIS from Liverpool, England to NY. The document is dated May 22, 1845. William 43, Mary 44, John 14, Margaret 13, Helen 10, Joseph 9.

I was able to find William's family in 1840 census in Yorkshire, England. The family was together in 1850 census in Harrison County, Short Creek, OH.

I have a copy of the will William A. Fletcher made in 1841 before leaving England which lists his children. This will was recorded at the Wood County Court House in Parkersburg, WV on March 4, 1864 and Mother (Helen R. Gainer) had a copy of it. I found court records showing that William made another will in 1857 and Ellen was not named, so she must have died between 1850 and 1857, but I haven't found a death record for her.

Margaret married Joseph R. Booth of Belmont Co., OH in 1866. They had a home in Wheeling and a daughter Nelly, but I don't find them after 1871 when William died.

John married Mary Downer (Dawner) in 1862 and lived in Wellsburg, Brooke Co., WV. They had five children and moved to Wood Co., WV where John died in 1903 and Mary in 1912.

I have not located Joseph after 1871.

Now that you remind me, I must go back to William's time in No. WV/OH and try to fill in some of the blanks.

I appreciate the pictures of the graves of William and Mary at Old Tent Cemetery and hope to visit there on one of our trips back to OH.
