MILLHOUSE: - Sarah Lucretia, daughter of Russell N. and Phoebe Carpenter, was born in East Des Moines, Iowa, March 10, 1855. She was married to George Millhouse, Nov. 12, 1871. About 13 years ago they moved to Nebraska, and settled in Knox County.

On Monday, 2nd, inst., she arrived in Ames accompanied by her two youngest children, little girls. She stopped with her sister, Mrs. D. D. Bales, in Ames, to visit for a short time, and then intended to come on to Maxwell to visit her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter. Mrs. B. had arranged to come with her on Thursday morning.

Wednesday evening after tea they started down town to do some errands. Soon after starting she was taken suddenly ill, and was taken into the nearest house when she soon expired from what was pronounced to be heart failure.

The remains arrived in Maxwell on Friday evening and were taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter. Mr. Millhouse had been notified and arrived that night. The funeral took place in C. P. church on Saturday at 2 p. m., and was conducted by Rev. Ferguson, assisted by Revs. Bentley and Doty. The C. P. choir had been called to Mt. Zion church to furnish the music at the funeral of Miss Effie Miller, and in their absence, the M. E. choir kindly came in and furnished very beautiful and appropriate music. The house was filled with a sympathizing audience.
After the service the remains were taken to the Peoria cemetery where they were laid beside a brother, who died a number of years ago.

Much sympathy was expressed for the husband and children, only two of whom were present.

This blow falls heavily on Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter, who are themselves in rather feeble health. All the community deeply feel for them in this the time of their sore bereavement. There is a consolation in their bereavement to all, in the fact that the departed was a faithful, earnest Christian woman. She was a member of the Christian church, and an active worker. As a daughter she was kind and respectful. A wife she was faithful and true, as a mother she was loving and indulgent.
