OTTAWA - F. Ransom Bennett, 80, Ottawa, died here Saturday in a hospital where he had been a patient three weeks.
He was born Nov. 5, 1891 at Pittsburg, the son of B.D. and Myra Ransom Bennett, and moved to Ottawa with his parents at an early age. He attended Ottawa public schools and Ottawa University.
Mr. Bennett was active in the milk business at Ottawa 58 years before he retired several years ago. He began work for his father, who had founded the Ottawa Condensing Co. in 1905.
He became president of the firm in 1958. He was also president of the American Butter Institute in 1955.
He was one of the original directors of the Franklin County Hospital Assn. and also served as a trustee.
He was an Army veteran of World War I and had been active in volunteer work with Boy Scouts of America. He had been a director of the Kansas State Bank of Ottawa since 1930 and also currently was a director of the Franklin Savings Assn.
Mr. Bennett was a member of First United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of both Warren Black Post No. 60 of the American Legion and Ottawa Lodge No. 18, AF&AM. He was a member of Abdallah Shrine at Kansas City, Kan.
He was a charter member of the Ottawa Kiwanis Club and served as president of the club in 1922.
He was married to Jane Davis July 7, 1922 at Denver, Colo. She survives.
Other survivors include 3 sons, F. Ransom Bennett, Jr., Jack D. Bennett, and Jep H. Bennett, all of Ottawa; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Anderson, Ottawa, and 9 grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at First United Methodist Church with burial in Highland Cemetery.
