Edward Hill Epting, 81, of Smith Mountain Lake, Va., died on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., on May 16, 1927, he was a son of the late Jay Felton Epting and Lizzie Lou Locklin Epting. He was a parishioner of Trinity Ecumenical Parish. Edward is survived by his loving wife, Mary Hartwell Epting; three children, Mary Susan Jones and her husband, Dave, of Roanoke, Jay Edward Epting and his wife, Cindy, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kathryn Ann Smith and her husband, Charlie, of Brandon, Miss.; and four grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Smith, Matthew Troy Epting, Kayla Renee Epting, and Samantha Ann Morrison. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Ecumenical Parish Mission Fund, 40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta, Va. 24121 or a charity of your choice. A celebration of Edward's life will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Trinity Ecumenical Parish with Pastor Gary K. Scheidt officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the church. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Smith Mountain Lake, Va., 540-721-9375.
