Debra Jo Jordan was born in Goodland, Kansas, the youngest of four children of Floyd and Esther Jordan. She spent her younger years in Salt Lake City, Utah and Star Valley, Wyoming with her parents, older sister Mary and older brothers David and Randy. The family moved to Oak Harbor, Whidbey Island, Washington State, where she later met Larry Ward (Berkeley, California), on active duty with the U.S. Navy. They were married in 1972 in Dorrington, California, and returned to Oak Harbor to settle down and start their family. In 1977, Deb and Larry moved to Denver, Colorado while Larry attended school, returning to be close to family and friends on Whidbey Island a year later. Due to a miscarriage and subsequent medical complications, there were no children, but Deb enjoyed, and had a hand in helping to raise her nieces and nephews. A loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife and friend, she selflessly gave of herself to her family and friends, remaining close to her parents, sister and brothers throughout her life. After a valiant and hard-fought ten-year battle with systemic lupus erythematosus, she died at age 38 of complications from the disease on Apr 3, 1992 at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.
