The death of Charles Allen Babers at the Railroad Hospital, St. Augustine, last week, was peculiarly sad. Mr. Babers came to Crescent City with his wife about three weeks before in order that she could the better recover from a severe attack of typhoid fever. At the time Mrs. Babers was convalescing, but was very weak. Mr. Babers stayed here about ten days, long enough to see that his wife was surely recovering, then he started back to Titusville to resume his work. At St. Augustine he was taken ill and went to the Railroad Hospital, where he soon became delirious with typhoid. He lingered but a few days and then died. Mrs. Babers and his brother, J. H. Babers were with him when the end came. His body was brought to this place and buried in Eden Cemetery, the funeral being conducted by Rev. D. M. Reeves of the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Babers is still with her brother, Mr. C. J. Hunter. She has the heartfelt sympathy of all in this community. For the past few years Mr. Babers held a responsible position with the Florida East Coast Railway at Titusville. (Palatka News Obituary dtd Friday, 15 Jun 1906.)
