Charles emigrated to St. Louis from Rovno, Ukraine in 1892 with his mother, Sarah, and four of his six siblings. His father, Meyer, and 2nd oldest brother, Jacob, were already here. His oldest brother, Chaim David, didn't join the family until 1898 and then returned to Rovno sometime after 1900 when his wife did not want to come.
Charles moved with his wife to St. Charles where he was the proprietor of a clothing store named Hub Clothing Co. He was an observant, orthodox Jew throughout his life; after his wife's death, his daughter Evelyn kept a Kosher home for him.
Charles and his older brother Jacob married sisters - Leah and Pauline Weintraub.
