After his mother died in 1911, his younger brothers were sent to the Washburn Memorial Orphan Asylum. They eventually ran away from there, and Royal and his wife took in two of the young men for a time. Royal and Myrtle G Olson were married on July 23, 1918 in Hennepin County, Mn. They continued living in the Minneapolis area.
Royal was medium height, medium build, and was very athletic. He once swam across the Mississippi River 8 times in a row on a dare, just to prove that he could.
From his draft card I found that he had dark hair and blue eyes. He was a teamster, an ice wagon driver. Sometime after 1940 he and Myrtle split up.
