Dean was born in Chicago, Illinois, before the Vasquez Family made their move to Robbinsdale, Minnesota, where he attended Robbinsdale Senior High School and graduated in 1967. While in high school Dean was known as a very nice and kind guy. He was kind of shy, but had a sense of humor and a very warm smile when he would say hi at school.
Shorty after graduating from high school Dean enlisted in the Marines 13 June 1967, at a recruiting office in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
When Dean arrived in Vietnam 20 December 1967, he was assigned to Hotel Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Hotel Company was operating in the vicinity of Dai Do on the north bank of the Cua Viet River and 4 kilometers north northeast of Dong Ha, when the Marines encountered
hostile forces. Dean died as a result of a gunshot wound to the body from hostile rifle fire.
Survived by his mother, Rita Vasquez and his brother; Roy Vasquez of 3808 Quail Avenue, North, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

His father, Manuel Vasquez was deceased.
