Stan Albin, age 86, of Ottawa, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor John W. Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Greg and Zack Hartshorn, Jim Clapp, Paul Vandom, Dr. John Armstrong and John Armstrong, Jr.

Stan was born February 5, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, a son of Fred and Amanda Kiehn Albin. He married Dorothy Anweiler July 8, 1945 at the Presbyterian Church in Ottawa. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy of Ottawa, a sister, Gwen Boyle of Branson, Missouri and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Mason, Robert and Donnie Albin.

Stan proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. He had been employed as a mechanic at Pool and Pool and Sierra Dodge. Stan was one of the original founders and charter member of the Ottawa River Rescue Squad which he served as a scuba diver and EMT. He taught various classes for the Red Cross and the American Heart Association. Stan was honored as Grand Marshall in a past Riverfest Parade, and Albin-Stevens Street was named in his honor. Several years ago, Stan ran the cable cars and ferry boat at Starved Rock State Park. In his leisure time, Stan enjoyed camping, fishing and woodworking. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
