Civil War veteran; he enlisted for the Union as a Chaplain in the 19th Indiana Infantry, on April 10, 1863. This regiment was part of the famed Iron Brigade of the West, or "Black Hats Brigade." He was a native of Selma, Delaware County, Indiana. He was commissioned as a Chaplain, Field and Staff on April 23, 1963. He resigned on July 5, 1864.
