Melvin James Sullivan, 80, Richfield, Utah, passed away February 16, 2009. He was born January 3, 1929 in Tooele, Utah to James Arthur and Johannah LuVana Ekenstem Sullivan. He married Karen Paxton August 17, 1959 in Ely, Nevada.

Mel served at the end of World War II in the Philippines. Also served in the Air Force in Korea. He loved the outdoors, including camping, hunting and especially fishing. He loved his children and grandchildren who lovingly called him "Grumpy-Bear". He adored his little cocker spaniel, Mazie. He was a jack of all trades, working as a truck driver, mine/mill mechanic, and he was an extra in movies such as the Daniel Boone series, Death Valley series, Ride the Whirl Wind and Duel at Diablo. He had his own shoe-shop in Kanab. He could do anything.

Mel is survived by his wife; children: Troy Sullivan, San Antonio, TX; Jay Sullivan, Roy; Micheal (April) Sullivan, Provo; Lauri Ann (Rodney) Krien, Castlewood, SD; Patrick (Kathy) Sullivan, Richfield; Marie Nelson, Evanston, WY; Karli Rae (Charles) Vickers, Richfield; 33 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents; children: Linda Rae Love and Denise Marie Tucker; two granddaughters; sister Geri Paulos and brother Dennis Sullivan.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 12 Noon in the Richfield 1st Ward Chapel. Interment will be in the Richfield City Cemetery with military rites by the V.F.W. Sevier Post #5050. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield
