Enlisted by Capt. R.D. Redden at Crossville, AL Sept 5, 1961 to serve CSA three years. Company F of the 26th Reg't Alabama Infantry. He fractured his arm and was admitted to Chimbarazo Hopsital in Richmond,VA on April 17,1862. He was discharged from service due to that injury which caused "stiffness and inability to use his arm."
He is described as "6 feet 6 inches high, light complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, and by profession a farmer".

Jonas married Eliza Jane Hays 29 Nov,1852 in Lowndes Co,MS. She was the daughter of John Grancer Hays. They had 6 children.
