Caroline A. "Carrie" Passe, age 90, of Wabasha, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Wabasha.

She was born June 20, 1918 in Salem, South Dakota, the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Stanghor) Weld. She graduated from Salem High School. She then attended beauty school in Minneapolis where she met Walter Passe in 1937 while he was attending Dunwoody Institute there. She moved to Big Lake, MN to work for the Sherburne County Telephone Company. She later moved to Washington, DC where she worked for the New Zealand Embassy. On August 17, 1943 she married Walter Passe at the Gesu Catholic Church in Miami, FL. The family moved to Wabasha in 1945 where they have lived since then. Mr. Passe died July 18, 2001.

Carrie was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of the Wabasha American Legion Post #50 and the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086 Auxiliary where she had served for several years as their poppy sales chairman. She was also an active volunteer for the Wabasha County Historical Society. She enjoyed bowling and sewing. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Tom Binner, Wabasha, MN, Andrea and Gerry Erickson, Green Bay, WI, Bonnie and Steven Peplinski, Bloomington, MN, Mary Lee and Keith Lovejoy, Brooklyn Park, MN; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Caren Passe, Wabasha, MN, Steven and Terry Passe, Wabasha, MN, Jeff Passe, Spring Grove, IL; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth Osterberg, Sioux Falls, SD, Lois and Charley Matthaei, Gering, NE; Brother and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Nancy Weld, Wenatchee, WA, Betty Weld, Winner, SD; many nieces, nephews and friends. Her husband, Walter, two sisters, Wilma Lyons and Ruby Van Heerde and brother, Reverend Robert Weld, preceded her in death.

A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 16, 2009 at 11:00am at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Reverend Glenn Frerichs officiating. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Michael and Jason Johnson, Matthew Peplinski, Nicholas and Neil Lovejoy, Sam and Cole Passe and Tim and Jacob Passe. Friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Sunday from 4-8pm where there will be a CCW rosary service at 4:30pm and a prayer service at 7pm. Friends may also call at the church on Monday one hour before the service. Memorials are preferred to a charity of choice or to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center Community Foundation or to St. Felix Adopt-A-Student Program.
