George served in the War Between the States as a corporal in the 8Minnesota company G from 30 Oct 1862 until 11 Jul 1865.
On the 28 Feb 1874 while hauling a load of lumber from Lake City, the load capsized in the snowdrifts and George was crushed to death between the lumber and a fence.
George is buried in Dale Pleasant Prarie Cemetery.
