Del Ray "Red" Sanders, 62, died Jan. 24, 2000, of a heart attack. Red was born March 16, 1937, in Hurricane to John Martin and Iris Adams Sanders. He Married Clara Reiff Feb. 16, 1962 in Laas Vegas. They were later divorced. He married Evahlee Katherine "Kathy" Pfoutz Feb. 14, 1988 in St. George. Red was born raised and educated in Hurricane. He graduated from Hurricane High School "Class of 1956". Red played third base for he Hurricane High School State Championship baseball team. He also graduated from Dixie Junior Collage. While attending Dixie Collage Red was one of the cheerleaders. He enjoyed being out front performing stunts with the girls, and giving the team his strong , enthusiastic support. While at Dixie Collage he joined the Utah National Guard. After graduating from Dixie Collage Red attended The University of Utah. He followed in his fathers footsteps and moved to Las Vegas, where he went to work for the Better Building Company owned by James Allen Ballard, a Hurricane hometown boy and family friend, where Red worked For 30 years. both in Las Vegas and southern Utah. He was an accomplished carpenter and in his later years specialized in tilt up concrete walls. In fact, Red's name is the first on the plaque of the Dixie Center time capsule. He took a great sense of pride in his contribution to the of the Dixie Center, especially in the modern construction of its tilt up concrete walls. Red was mischievous, humorous, and always had a joke; he was one of a kind. He loved hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He especially loved Kolob and called it "Heaven on Earth". Red was hard working and always had a beautiful suntan. Red was friendly, gentle, caring, sentimental, and compassionate. The world is a better place for have known Red Sanders. He is survived by his wife: Kathy of Hurricane, previous wife and friend: Clara Reiff Spears of Las Vegas; Children: Ron(Karen) Sanders of Las Vegas, Joan(John) Schippers of Mount Carmel, NY, and twin daughters: Dina Walker of Las Vegas and Deanna(Terry) Taylor of Malven, PA; four grandchildren: Crystal, Kayleen, BJ, Kailyn; a brother: Lynn(Janice) Sanders of Hurricane; step children: Hazel Ann(Guy W.) Johnson of Salt Lake City, C. Leon Hardy of California, Joseph A. Hardy of Salt Lake City, April(Brigham) Dutson of Colorado City, AZ.; many step-grandchildren; and best friend: James Allen (JoAnn)Ballard of Hurricane. Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000 at 11 am in the Hurricane West LDS Stake Center, 275 South 700 West, Internment will be in the Hurricane City Cemetery with full military honors under the direction of Spilsbury and Beard Mortuary.
