Mr. Robert Lee Carpenter, 89, retired mechanic with the Monsanto Company for over thirty years, former long-time resident of Osage Trail and current resident of Lasea Road, died Saturday, February 8, 2003 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Kevin White and Jack White officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Eastside or New Lasea Churches of Christ Building Funds. The Maury County native was the son of the late Charlie Carpenter and Mary Lovett Carpenter Hardison. He was a member of the Eastside Church of Christ and New Lasea Church of Christ.

He was married December 25, 1934 to the former Ervie Pallen Chesnut. Mrs. Carpenter preceded him in death August 3, 2000. Their son, Bobby C. Carpenter died January 24, 2003.

Survivors include a daughter and special son-in-law, Dana and Donald White of Columbia; a sister, Ruby C. Derryberry of Old Hickory; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Woodward Carpenter of Columbia; four grandchildren, Jeff White, Chris (Sunny) Carpenter, Shon Carpenter and Connie White; two great-grandchildren; Jessica White and Jonathan White; several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers are Jeff White, Chris Carpenter, Shon Carpenter, Newton Derryberry, Joe Garrison, Tim Garrison, Billy Dean Chesnut and Bill Jones. Honorary pallbearers include Willie Hardison, Dory Adams, J. W. Blair, Don Richardson, Boyd Roberts, Monsanto retirees and Elders and Deacons of the Eastside and New Lasea Churches of Christ.
