Nancy Caroline Gregory was born in Washington County, Kentucky, one of 10 children born to Smith & Martha Patsy (Vaughn) Gregory.

Nancy married Wiley G. Hatten 12/15/1819 in Washington County, Kentucky before migrating to Indiana in 1828 and purchasing 80 acres of land from the gov't in Noble Township, Shelby County, Indiana.

The couple were the parents of 9 children:
