Eugene Erastus Bihn was born on 22 February 1892 in Sidney, Nebraska. He was the only child of hotel manager Peter David Bihn and his Swedish wife, Laura Josephine Swanson. The Bihn family moved frequently and lived in several large cities while Eugene was a boy. They settled in Beaumont, Texas, where the family appeared on the 1910 US Census in Beaumont. Eugene was listed as the chief cook at a hotel. Eugene married first Sammie Bihn, 30 December 1916, in Beaumont, and was baptized on their wedding day with a reception held at the Cromwell Apartments. Their daughters were Laura Agnes and Marthagene Bihn. Eugene was employed as an assistant cashier at the Gulf National Bank and later as the manager of Fenner and Beane Stock Exchange. The Bihn family appeared on the Census of 1920 at Beaumont, renting a house with four people in the family. Eugene and Sammie were divorced 1924, remarried 1926, and divorced again 1928. Eugene married second his secretary, Forrest Fern Crawford, around 1929. He became the father of two more daughters, Joan and Beverly Bihn.
