Notice of death in Kington Freeman, May 11, 1927:
David Hornbeck, who has been employed at Lake Mohonk for several years, died May 2. Mr. Hornbeck was 71 years old and is survived by his wife and one daughter.

According to an article in the Orange Co. Independent, he was trampled and kicked to death by a team of horses that had been frightened by a dynamite blast. There seems to be no report of the incident in the New Paltz paper, the Kingston paper, or the Poughkeepsie paper.
