He was born in Plains, Ga., and grew up in the Plains, Ga.-area. He had been a resident of Palatka for the past 49 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was formerly employed by the Georgia-Pacific Corp. in Palatka and had formerly owned and operated Bart's Burgers in Palatka. He attended the San Mateo Church of God and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 191 in Ellaville, Ga. He enjoyed farming and cooking.
He was preceded in death by one son, Terrance Leon Bartlett.
Leon is survived by his wife of 49 years, Loraine Bartlett of Palatka; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sharlene and John Haring, Christine and Robby Walls, all of Palatka, and Elisa K. Green of Ocala; two sisters, Dot Morris of Americus, Ga., and Carrie Johnson of Ellaville, Ga.; eight grandchildren and spouses, David and Carry Haring, Terry and Amy Haring, Amanda Ulrich, Katti Moore-Walls and her fiance, B.B. Farmer, Stetson Hudgens-Walls, Joe Walls and his fiance, Brandi, Lucas, and Jennifer Walls and Clint Walls; six great-grandchildren, Alyssa Ulrich, Joey Haring, Terry Michael Haring, John David Haring III, Austin Haring and Hannah Walls; and best buddy, Tyler Smith.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the San Mateo Church of God with Rev. Richard Sapp officiating. Burial will follow in the Palatka Memorial Gardens with military honors bestowed by the U.S. Navy. In honor and celebration of Mr. Bartlett's life, a video tribute will be shown.
