Clinton was born June 6, 1917 in Gypsum, Kansas to Tom and Eva Phillips. He married Esther Karber on April 13th, 1940. They were happily married for 65 years. They had three beautiful daughters, Sharon, Shirley & Dena. Clinton and Esther owned a butane gas business for three years in Topeka before he was drafted, 1st Scout in the 6th Army to WWII. Clinton spent the next two and a half years in the Phillipines and Japan. When Clinton came home from the war he begain in the car business. Phillips Motor Co. started in Roxbury and Lindsborg, then McPherson and finally in Salina. He was a member of the NIADA since 1977. Clinton was one of the founders of KIADA and served as President. Clinton was in the car business for 59 years.
Clinton was the proud grandpa of five grand children; Barbara, Steven, Patricia, Deanna, & Tina, Great Grandpa of eight; Mandi, Brent, Bret, Tyler, Brooke, Cody, Casey, & Katie, Great Great Grandpa to Arrik and last but not least Muffin. Clinton is preceeded in death by his parents, his sister Lorene, his two daughters Sharon & Dena, and his grandson Shawn. Clinton will dearly be remembered for his dry sense of humor, his achievements and all his stories. We were honored to have such a man in our lives.
The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth St., Salina. Burial will be in the Gypsum Cemetery, Gypsum, Ks. Withe military honors provided by Ft. Riley. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Mortuary where the family will receive friends 6:30 p.m to 8:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the St. Judes Children's Hospital or to the donors choice.
