Alpha Ashcraft Barclay Ambort, age 90, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008. She was born Nov. 11, 1918, on Petit Jean Mountain in Arkansas.
Most of her life was lived in Little Rock, Ark.; however, the last five years, she had made her home in Hot Springs Village, Ark.
She is predeceased by her mother, Cornelia Ashcraft; father, Byron Ashcraft; four siblings, Frank and Tommy Ashcraft, Ann Haynes and Jo Olney; her first husband, Don Barclay and second husband Louis Ambort.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Reynolds and husband Doug of Dallas, Texas; and Michele Beale and husband Chuck of Hot Springs Village; four grand children, Clay Coffman and wife Melanie; Jenny Henry and husband Mark; Heather Williams and husband Chad; and Josh Reynolds and wife Beth; 10 great grandchildren; Hunter, Hayden, Hudson and Hope Henry; Sam, Kathryn and Will Coffman; Halle and Cason Williams and Lilly Anna Reynolds.
Mrs. Ambort also leaves behind three stepchildren, Ron Ambort; Debbie Powell and husband Larry; and Melanie Crowder; seven step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, including her beloved niece, Ruth Kenney.
Mrs. Ambort, better known as "Mimi," was loved by all who knew her. She was never happier than when she was with her family. Known for her good cooking and hospitality, she enjoyed people and laughter.
She was a member of Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock and for the last five years attended Village Bible Church in Hot Springs Village. She enjoyed a 27-year career in real estate in Little Rock, beginning with Bracy Realty and culminating with Block Realty.
As one of the few women in the real estate field during the 1950s and early 1960s, she served as the founder and first president of the Women's Council of the Little Rock board of Realtors as well as the state president of the Women's Council.
She was a member of Chi Sigma Sorority, serving as president of the Little Rock Chapter at one time.
There was a visitation at Caruth Village Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008.
Family burial was at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery in Bryant, Ark. and a Memorial Service of Celebration was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 at Caruth Village Funeral Home. It was officiated by Pastor Mark Henry and Pastor Gale Bone, retired pastor of First Baptist Church.
