Obituaries: William Leo "Bill" Bowe Sr.
July 3, 1930 – Nov. 27, 2008
William 'Bill' Leo Bowe Sr., 77, died Nov. 27, 2008 at Hospice House in Bend. A celebration of life will be held at the Canyon City Community Hall at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.

Mr. Bowe was born on July 3, 1930 in Winona, Minn., to Thomas and Florence Bowe. On Dec. 23, 1950, he married Lorna Joan (Jean) Olsen in Hinckley, Minn.

From 1951 to 1955, he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.

He sang, played piano and guitar and sculpted with clay. He loved good conversation, reading, cooking and giving advice on cooking.

He enjoyed listening to music, learning about geology, arguing points of food, politics and religion, and making his children laugh. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, life in general and seeing "what's over the next hill."

He was a spiritual man who believed in Christ and His plan for eternal life.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years; his brother, Robert; and sister, Beverly.

After Jean's death, he united with a close family friend of theirs, Lois Sauvageau. They enjoyed 16 years together, traveling and taking care of each other as close companions.

Survivors include his nine children, William Bowe Jr. of Glendive, Mont., Michael Bowe of John Day, Chris (Rebecca) Bowe of Bend, Kathy Bowe of John Day, Becky (Ned) Coleman of Canyon City, Linnea (Neal) Coleman of Canyon City, Dyanne Hancock of Canyon City, Stephanie (Gary) Claughton of Estacada, and Patty (Jim) Haynes of Westwood, Calif.; 31 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; his brother, Donald Bowe of Shoreview, Minn. and sister, Sharon Peterson of Maple Lake, Minn.

He is also survived by Lois; her daughter, Renea (Pete) McGrath of Vernon, N.J. and their two children, whom he adopted at heart as his own.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Bend, 2075 Wyatt Ct., Bend, OR 97701.
