|Lent Munson Hitchcock (1816-1869) was a native of Connecticut. According to volume 3 of The New Handbook of Texas, Hitchcock visited Galveston Island for the first time in 1828. He served as an officer in the Texas Navy during the Texas Revolution and in 1838 helped organize Galveston's first city government. Hitchcock became a wealthy businessman and was active in Galveston's city government for many years.|
