She was born in Highlands, North Carolina and moved to Manassas in 1954. Mrs. Wood was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for 52 years where she was also employed as church secretary for several years. Mrs. Wood also worked for the Prince William County School Board.
Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years, Charles Robert Wood; her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Michael Holloway, of Manassas; two grandchildren, Greg Holloway and wife, Lauren, of Durham, North Carolina and Lori Knapton and husband, Micah, of Rustburg, Virginia; three great- grand-children, Scout Knapton, Rowan Holloway and Sawyer Knapton; one sister, Edna Bryson and husband, Neville, of Highlands, North Carolina; one brother, James Phillips and wife, Vivian, of Nokesville, Virginia; brother-in-law, Joe Crowe and many treasured nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2009 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 8006 Centreville Road, Manassas with Dr. Rodney Autry officiating. Interment at 3 p.m. Monday at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas.
