Mrs. George D Van Horn
Mrs. George D Van Horn died at her home here Saturday after an illness of several weeks. She was one of Houston's oldest and most highly respected citizens, being 86 years of age at the time of her death. She had been in failing health for some time, but her death was wholly unexpected, and came as a distinct shock to her family and friends. She was the widow of the late George D Van Horn, and was buried by his side in Houston Cemetery Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, services being conducted by her pastor, the Rev. George Boyles, of the Methodist Church. She lived a consistent life, having been a member of the Methodist Church since early girlhood. Unpretentious, kind and gentle in her nature, she was a most exemplary wife, mother, neighbor and friend.
She is survived by five daughters and a son, Mesdames W A Harrington, of Houston, T W Norman of Macon, Ga., A D Alcorn of Cincinnati, E L Cogbill of Dyersburg, and Miss Grace Van Horn of Houston, and Mr. Paul Van Horn of Pomona, Calif. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. N A Clements and Miss Emma Alexander of Memphis.
