Son of Samuel Waldo (1795-1883) and Mercy Calkins (1800-1840); married Miss Polly Jane Raymond (1825-1865) in Feb. 1856 in Jeffersonville, IN; children: William Raymond (b. 1857), Anna (1858-1943), Samuel (1860-1864), and Abraham Raymond (b. 1862); raised 60 men for Co. F, 38TH IND INF; elected to serve as company commander at Camp Noble in 1861, but deposed by Colonel Scribner; raised two other companies for federal service; eventually became a quartermaster clerk in the 2ND NY VET CAV; 2nd wife: Elvira Garritson (b. @1850 in OH); children w/ Elvira: Grace (b. 1874) and Frank Shubael (b. 1876); home in 1880: Salem Twp., Henry Co., IA; gardener and fruit grower; moved to Arkansas in 1882; moved to Beebe, AR, March 1884; applied for a federal pension May 7, 1888 app. #654,603 cert. #851,958 in AR; listed in 1910 as a boarder in Robert G.
