John married Mary "Polly" WEAL on Dec. 11, 1824, in Fairfield Co., Ohio. He died one year and one day after they married. His only child (Elizabeth) was born posthumously, sometime in 1826.

Page 168 of the 1909 HUFFORD FAMILY HISTORY incorrectly reports that he died single. Rather, he died so soon after he was married that his marriage was forgotten by some as the years passed. The truth was that he had a daughter, and ten grandchildren, and at least 20 great-grandchildren, and his line continues into modern time.

NOTE: Regarding John's month of birth, there is conflicting information in the 1909 HUFFORD FAMILY HISTORY, at page 8. On the list of children born to his parents, his birth is listed as March 1801. Immediately above the list is this: "John, their 9th child, who died December 12, 1825, aged 24 years, 3 months." That would indicate he was born in about September 1825. Thus, there is conflicting information about the month, and all that can be determined is that he was born in 1801.

Gravesite Details

By 1981, the stone was broken along with the other few stones. The stones were in a tangled mess amidst the broken concrete they had once been reset in.
