Henry Nicola Baratter was born Aug 04, 1896 in Crenshaw, PA; baptism recorded as Stenancum Baratter Aug 16, 1896 in Santa Maria del Carmelo Parish, Rovereto, Trento, Italy. He married Apr 23, 1923 at St. Nicholas Church in Clarion County, PA, Mary Battaia; b. Jul 04, 1902 in Dysart, PA; d. Jul 31, 1986. She was the daughter of August Battaia; b. about 1865 Austria-Tyrol and Albina; b. about 1865; d. 1927; bur. Holy Cross Cemetery, Brandy Camp, PA. Albina was on the manifest of the S. S. St. Louis that sailed from Southampton Sep 18, 1901 and arrived at the Port of New York Sep 18th. Her final destination was Brockway, PA. Silvio Battaia age 10 was with her on this journey. Mary worked for the American Flag Company in New York City, and was still stitching at age 85. Some of these flags were flown over our nation's capital in Washington, DC, and one was taken to the moon on one of the Apollo missions. Henry served in WW1. On his registration card, Henry Nicola Bart stated that his birthday was Aug 04, 1897, was a resident of Kersey, PA, and worked for R. A. Cartwright in Helens Corner, PA. He listed the birth place of his father as Rovereto, Austria. Henry was of medium build, had brown eyes and black hair. After the war, he was in construction, and worked on the George Washington Bridge and the Lincoln Tunnel. He was also in the shipping industry in New York City harbors. During the 1930 census, Henry Bart, Mary, Albert and Mary's widowed father were living on West 40th Street in Manhattan, New York. Henry is working as a laborer on a subway and his parents are listed as being born in Austria-Tyrol also. August is listed as immigrating in 1890 and speaking the German language before coming to the US. In 1942, when Henry filed his WWII draft registration card he listed his birthday as Aug 04, 1896 and was living with Mary at 367 West 35th Street in NYC and working for Brenach Brothers at 95 Wychoff Street in Brooklyn. On this draft card, Henry was described as 5' 4" tall, weighing 150 pounds, and had hazel eyes and black hair. Henry died Aug 17, 1978 and was buried with his wife in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
