Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009, at the Christian Church in Lehigh. Pastor Richard Laird will officiate. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.
Betty Darlene Dunbar was born on November 12, 1934, in Andover, Missouri, to Clarence and Ellen (Graves) Dunbar. She graduated with the Duncombe High School class of 1953. Following her education, Darlene worked as a filing clerk for the F.B.I. in Washington D.C. for a short time before homesickness drew her back to Iowa. She was united in marriage to Lovell Leon Cummins on April 2, 1955, and the couple made their home in Lehigh. Darlene worked off and on, taking care of her kids in the process. She cleaned houses with her daughter from 1988 until her retirement in 2005. Besides spending time with family, Darlene loved to sing and forever will be remembered as filling her family's lives with music.
Survivors include her son, Lonny (Barb) Cummins of Fort Dodge; daughter, Laurie Westrum of Lehigh; four grandchildren, Nick (Kristi) Cummins of Bettendorf; Kristin (Mike) Kenyon of Clare; Aaron Westrum, and Adam Westrum of Lehigh; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Dalene Engeman of Fort Dodge, and Charlene Housken of Indio, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lovell; son, Lenny; and a sister, Eilene Johnson Wise.
