She was born January 28, 1925, in Wolftown, Madison County, Virginia, the daughter of the late William Richard Cole and Frances Maude Long Cole and wife of the late John Edwin Blankenbaker.
She is also preceded in death by a sister, Frances Maude Cole Hall and two brothers, William Richard Cole Jr. and John Long Cole.
Mrs. Blankenbaker was a member of the Hebron Lutheran Church in Madison where she participated in many activities and sang in the choir for many years. She was an avid gardner and participated in local garden and homemaking clubs. She also enjoyed sewing, dancing, reading scripture and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, David Cole Blankenbaker and his wife, Kathryn of Stanardsville; five grandchildren, Pamela Lamb and her husband, Matthew, of Stanardsville, Gail Spence and her husband, Matthew, of Greensboro, North Carolina, Richard "Sam" Blankenbaker and his wife, Heather, of Martinsville, Sarah Blankenbaker and Christopher Blankenbaker both of Stanardsville; six great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kurt and Madeline Lamb, Megan Spence, Kirsten and Aubrey Blankenbaker; a special niece, Joy Leung and her husband, Harry and their children, Lisa, Aaron, Caleb and Hannah.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Hebron Lutheran Church with interment at the church cemetery and the Pastor Karen Taylor will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison.
